African Art, the Cobra Movement, and Moroccan-Dutch Cooperation in Museum and Heritage Studies
On the occasion of the exhibition 'Cobra, a Multiheaded Snake' at the Musée Mohammed VI in Rabat, the Netherlands Institute in Morocco (NIMAR) is pleased to invite you to a symposium on 'African Art, the Cobra Movement, and Moroccan-Dutch Cooperation in Museum and Heritage Studies.' This event is organized in collaboration with the Fondation Nationale des Musées and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Rabat.
Dutch scholars have been studying African cultures and arts since at least the 1950s, drawing from diverse disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, and architecture, both in universities and ethnographic museums. This symposium will bring together leading experts in the field to explore new opportunities for collaboration in museum work and academic teaching.
The symposium also marks the closing of the Cobra exhibition while also paving the way for the future of Moroccan-Dutch cooperation within the framework of the Musée du Continent, a museum dedicated to African culture currently being developed by the Fondation Nationale des Musées.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the auditorium of the Mohammed VI Museum and will take place from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Kindly note that lunch will be provided for participants who register via the following link before Tuesday 25th February:
