The seminar aims at introducing a selected group of advanced French and International graduate students to research methods and recent developments in the study of pre-modern Muslim Law. It will take place from December 3 to December 7, 2018 at the CNRS campus in Villejuif and will bring together about twenty students from universities in France, the MENA region and West Africa. Sessions will be led by a group of eight international senior scholars and will feature a series of workshops focusing on primary sources in Arabic and the different approaches to studying Law in Islam. The working languages are French and English.
Participation is free of charge for the students. Funds for travel expenses may be available, which will be decided on an individual case-by-case basis.
