Exploring Morocco by taxi
Getting around in local public transport has always been an adventure for us during our stay in Morocco. Getting lost was something we experienced on a daily basis, but these are the moments that always will stick with us and that we will cherish the most. Living in Temara, a city close to Rabat, made us experience from the early beginning of our stay how the local public transportation works in Morocco.
New experience
Travelling each day by taxi and later on with the train made us experience Morocco on a different level. First we started with travelling by taxi, the taxi’s in Morocco are divided in two; the little ones and the bigger ones. Every little taxi has its own color in every city and the small taxi in Rabat is dark blue. There is for each taxi a maximum and the little taxis allow only 3 people and the bigger ones 7 people, the driver included. Travelling with the big taxis is something you need to experience. You will be propped with six other people in the taxi, but the remarkable thing is that we actually enjoyed our trip each day with the taxi. We didn’t had much privacy or space to move, true, but every day we met different kind of people and had a lot of conversations with them. And also not to forget, the Arabic music on the background and the beautiful landscapes we were passing by made our day.
All roads lead to Rabat
In the beginning we were guided through the cities by our guest family but after that we started traveling alone and that’s where our adventures started. One of the most important things that we have learned during this period of time is how freehanded and helping the Moroccan population is. Getting lost was never a reason to worry, because there will always be someone who will offer to help you, and even though communicating gets hard sometimes, they will find a way to help. Like that one time when one of us was lost in Agdal and a Moroccan woman helped and made sure that I got home safely. So don't worry if you get lost in Morocco, just ask and the people will help you for sure! And if you worry... Take an Atay b na3na3 (Moroccan mint tea)!
