Africa 2016-2100

In his lecture entitled “Africa 2016-2100: Demographic Trends and Consequences for the Continent and for the World" he will consider the consequences of rapid population growth for the future of the world and for Africa. What are the consequences of urbanization, migration, resource competition and what is their impact on the population? What are the prospects for economic growth and political turmoil? And what does the current global situation, with economic growth slowing down and the start of the Brexit-Trump era, mean for Africa?

The talk will be in English with a French PowerPoint (“Afrique 2016-2100: Les tendances démographiques et les conséquences pour le continent et pour le monde"), followed by a discussion in both languages.

Cleveringa

This lecture is part of the Cleveringa meetings held all over the world, organized by the Leiden University Fund in collaboration with the regional committees. On November 26th 1940, Professor Cleveringa, dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Leiden, held a speech in which he stood up against the measure to fire the Jewish professors. In remembrance of this famous protest speech, scientists of Leiden are holding interesting lectures around the world since 1946.
